
Anantnag, Aug 28: Anantnag Police have registered a case following a complaint alleging that a man was duped of ₹8.25 lakh on promises of securing an SPO position and arranging permission for a tent facility at Pahalgam during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The complaint was filed by Waheed Ahmad Itoo at Police Post Khanabal against Aabid Hussain Nengroo, who was allegedly presented as having political influence and the ability to facilitate the requested arrangements.
According to the complaint, Nengroo allegedly assured Itoo that he could help secure his appointment as a Special Police Officer and also facilitate official permission to establish tents for pilgrims at Pahalgam during the annual pilgrimage.
Itoo alleged that he paid ₹8.25 lakh after relying on these assurances. The alleged transaction and the circumstances surrounding the payment are now part of the police investigation.
Following the complaint, Police Station Anantnag registered FIR No. 283/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police have initiated an investigation to verify the allegations, examine the financial transactions and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged promises.
The allegations against Nengroo have not been established in court and remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
