
Agartala, July 19: In a major success against the illegal narcotics trade, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Department of Customs, seized 1,000 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup worth approximately ₹2.24 lakh from the general area of Mungiakami Village in Tripura.
The operation, conducted on July 17, was based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of contraband in the area. Acting swiftly, the joint team intercepted the suspected consignment and recovered the cough syrup, which is often misused for illicit purposes.
During the operation, two individuals allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of the contraband were apprehended.
The seized consignment, along with the accused, was handed over to the Department of Customs for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Officials said the operation reflects the continued commitment of the Assam Rifles and law enforcement agencies to curb cross-border smuggling and prevent the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances in the region.
The security forces reiterated that coordinated intelligence-based operations against drug trafficking and other illegal activities will continue to ensure peace, security and the rule of law in the border areas.
