BSG plays key role in development of moral, ethical values of individuals: CUKashmir VC

 Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, Thursday said, that Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) play a pivotal role in the development of moral and ethical values of individuals, helping them grow into responsible citizens of the country.

“Its purpose lies not only in preparing youth for life’s challenges, but also in nurturing their potential to contribute positively towards the society,” Prof. A Ravinder Nath said, during an induction cum awareness programme of students of BBA, organised by the Department of Management Studies, for promoting good citizenship, on the foundation day of the JK Bharat Scouts and Guides.

Stating that “service to God comes through service of humanity,” Prof. A Ravinder Nath, said, the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement is a platform that transcends boundaries of caste, creed, and religion. “By bringing together youth from diverse backgrounds, it fosters unity and social harmony,” he added. CUKashmir Vice Chancellor apprised the participants that he too was a scout and has a lifetime membership. “BSG places a strong emphasis on cultivating honesty, kindness, and perseverance, ensuring that young minds grow into compassionate and ethical leaders.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dean School of Business Studies and Senior State Vice-President, JK Bharat Scouts and Guides, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, said, the Bharat Scouts and Guides equips its members with a wide range of skills that are essential for overall personal and holistic professional growth. “The purpose of the Bharat Scouts and Guides extends far beyond recreational activities. It is a movement that shapes individuals into compassionate, capable, and conscientious citizens. By focusing on character development, leadership, service, environmental stewardship, and skill enhancement, BSG prepares youth to lead meaningful lives and contribute positively to society,” he said.

In his address, Educationist, Prof. Javed Iqbal Kamili said, “The movement’s structured programmes include training in first aid, public speaking, teamwork, and technical skills. These activities are designed to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities,” he said.

State Headquarter Commissioner, JK, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Ganderbali, in his speech said, over the decades, the Bharat Scouts and Guides has played a pivotal role in shaping millions of young lives. “By teaching self-reliance, empathy, and civic responsibility, the organization continues to contribute to the nation’s social and moral fabric,” he added.

In his presentation, Joint District Secretary, BSGs, Ganderbal, Mr. Innayat Mushtaq gave an overview of the BSG functioning and said the movement provides opportunities for youth to take initiative, work collaboratively, and assume responsibilities.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Joint State Secretary, JK BSG, Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Shafi said, the Bharat Scouts and Guides stands as a beacon of hope, encouraging youth to lead with purpose and integrity.

Mr. Mohammad Lateef Khan conducted the programme proceedings and Associate Prof. Deptt of Management Studies, Dr. Zia ul Haque proposed the vote of thanks.
