July 23, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, July 23: Amid inclement weather, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Akshay Labroo, on Thursday reviewed flood preparedness and the prevailing situation during a visit to the Flood Control Room at Ram Munshi Bagh.

Chairing a high-level meeting with senior officers, the DC assessed water levels, gauge readings, discharge trends and the preparedness of various departments to respond to any weather-related emergency.

Officials briefed him on the latest status of River Jhelum and its tributaries, round-the-clock monitoring of gauge stations and the real-time information dissemination mechanism. Contingency measures put in place by different departments were also reviewed.

Emphasising constant vigilance, the DC directed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and other line departments to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations and ensure timely analysis and sharing of real-time data for prompt decision-making.

He instructed departments to strengthen flood protection works at identified vulnerable spots and remain fully prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging situation.

Highlighting the need for coordinated action, the DC asked all departments to mobilise manpower, machinery and essential resources in advance, particularly in flood-prone areas.

He also stressed seamless coordination among the Revenue Department, Police, NDRF, SDRF, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Fire and Emergency Services and other agencies, directing them to pre-position rescue teams, equipment and field staff to tackle any weather-related emergency effectively.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Revenue, Police, IMD, Irrigation & Flood Control, SMC, Health, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence and other concerned departments.
