Jammu, October 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir has the talent, educational institutions and supporting ecosystem required to emerge as a global hub for technology and knowledge-based industries.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while virtually addressing the J&K Global Capability Centres (GCCs) Summit 2026 at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.
The two-day summit has been organised by IIM Jammu in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Government and NASSCOM. It brings together more than 300 global industry leaders, policymakers and academics to explore opportunities for developing the Union Territory into a centre for technology-driven services and business operations.
Highlighting the region's educated youth, established academic institutions, competitive operating costs, improved connectivity and quality of life, Omar said these factors could help attract global companies and create opportunities for local talent.
He emphasised that Global Capability Centres could provide young professionals in Jammu and Kashmir with access to international opportunities, advanced skill development and employment across technology and knowledge-based sectors.
The Chief Minister said the growth of such centres could also contribute to long-term economic development by expanding the region's employment base and strengthening its position in emerging industries.
He assured prospective investors of the government's support, including single-window facilitation and a favourable policy framework to encourage investment and establish sustainable business operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The summit is aimed at bringing industry stakeholders, academic institutions and policymakers together to discuss strategies for attracting global enterprises and developing the region's capabilities in technology, research and specialised services.
