KU begins three-day national conference on environment, climate and sustainability

 The University of Kashmir (KU) began a three-day national conference on “Environment, Climate and Sustainability: Science, Policy and Pathways” at the Main Campus.
Jointly organised by the Department of Environmental Science and Department of Geoinformatics, KU, the conference aims to bring together researchers, academics, policymakers and practitioners to discuss emerging environmental and climate challenges and examine scientific, policy and practical pathways towards sustainability.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan said, “Addressing climate and environmental challenges requires sustained scientific research, informed policy and collective action, and universities have an important role in bringing these perspectives together.”
She emphasised the need for stronger academic engagement with issues of climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development.
Dean Research KU, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Ganai said that addressing complex environmental challenges requires research that is both scientifically robust and relevant to society and policy. Dean, School of Earth & Environmental Sciences KU, Prof. Pervez Ahmed, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in understanding environmental change and developing appropriate responses.
Head, Department of Geoinformatics KU and Convener of the conference, Dr. Irfan Rashid, provided an overview of the programme and its academic focus. Earlier, Head, Department of Environmental Science KU and Convener, Dr. Sami Ullah Bhat, in his welcome address, provided the objectives of the conference and welcomed the participating researchers and experts.
An abstract book was also released on the occasion.
The three-day conference features technical sessions, poster presentations, expert lectures and panel discussions covering various aspects of climate change, environmental science, geospatial technologies, sustainability, policy interventions and climate-resilient pathways. The conference is being attended by participants from across the country, providing a platform for sharing research findings and discussing approaches to contemporary environmental challenges.
The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Mohammad Muslim, Organising Secretary and faculty member, Department of Environmental Science, KU, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Khalid Omer Murtaza, Co-convener and faculty member, Department of Geoinformatics, KU.
The conference is sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, ICSSR and CSIR.
