Srinagar, July 31: A non-local labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed and another critically injured after terrorists opened fire at a brick kiln in Kilam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening.
According to officials, terrorists fired on two non-local labourers working at Brick Kiln 70B in Kilam in the evening.
The two labourers hailing from Chhattisgarh suffered critical gunshot wounds in the terror attack.
The injured were identified as Deepak Ratray (24) son of Umah Shankar Ratray, and Bhupendra (28), son of Dastat, both hailing from Chhattisgarh.
The injured labourers were rushed to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where doctors declared Deepak brought dead on arrival while Bhupendra is undergoing treatment for his injuries.
After the attack, police, CRPF and army men rushed to the area and launched a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) to track down the terrorists involved in the attack.
Senior police and security officials have reached the site to supervise the operation.
The incident took place nine days after terrorists killed a policeman in the busy Lal Chowk area of Anantnag.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack.
I spoke with the DGP, Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act,” Sinha said
He has directed security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.
Sinha said J&K Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families,” Sinha said.
