LG Manoj Sinha Says Constitutional Changes of 2019 Brought Equality, Development to J&K

Srinagar, August 5: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in August 2019 marked a turning point for Jammu and Kashmir by ending what he described as decades of discrimination and paving the way for social justice and inclusive development.

In a statement issued on the anniversary of the constitutional changes, the Lieutenant Governor said the decision, taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ensured equal rights and opportunities for all sections of society and laid the foundation for the region's overall progress.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is moving forward with renewed confidence, witnessing sustained development, improved public welfare and a more peaceful environment.

The Lieutenant Governor's remarks came as political parties continued to express differing views on the significance of August 5. While the Bharatiya Janata Party termed the constitutional changes a landmark step in the region's integration and development, several opposition parties observed the day as "Black Day" and reiterated their demand for the restoration of statehood and constitutional safeguards.
