Poonch, July 21: At least seven members of a family, including two children, were killed after a massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall struck a mud house in the Loran-Dumilan area of Poonch district on Monday. The tragedy is among the deadliest incidents reported during the ongoing spell of heavy rain and flash floods across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the landslide occurred after continuous rain loosened the hillside, causing debris and boulders to crash onto the house while the family was inside. Rescue teams, including the police, district administration, and local volunteers, rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the debris.

The fresh tragedy has further increased the death toll from rain-related incidents in the Jammu region, where flash floods, landslides, and cloudburst-like events have caused widespread destruction over the past two days. Authorities have intensified rescue and relief operations in the worst-affected districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the flood situation and directed the district administration and disaster response agencies to ensure immediate rescue, relief, and rehabilitation measures for affected families. He also instructed officials to provide all possible assistance to those impacted by the ongoing weather emergency.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, raising the risk of additional landslides and flash floods. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories.
