Leh, July 21: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has issued a comprehensive weather advisory, urging tourists, commuters and residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel in view of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of sustained rainfall across the region from July 22 to July 25.
According to the advisory issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh, the region is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall at several places during the forecast period. Authorities warned that the prevailing weather conditions could trigger flash floods, landslides, road blockages and disruptions to power supply, communication networks and other essential services.
Tourists planning to visit Ladakh have been advised to postpone their travel to vulnerable destinations until weather conditions improve. Those already in the region have been urged to follow all official advisories, avoid rivers, nallahs, flood prone areas and landslide vulnerable slopes, and refrain from undertaking unnecessary travel.
The administration has also cautioned commuters against crossing overflowing streams, damaged roads or unstable bridges, stressing that travel through hilly and vulnerable stretches should be avoided during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents have been asked to remain alert, keep essential emergency supplies ready and immediately comply with any evacuation orders issued by local authorities if the situation demands.
To strengthen preparedness, the DDMA has directed all concerned departments, including the district administration, police, Health Department, Public Works Department, Power Development Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Municipal Committee, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, UTDRF and the National Disaster Response Force, to remain on high alert and ensure the availability of manpower, machinery and emergency resources for prompt response to any weather related incident.
Authorities have urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and strictly follow instructions issued by the district administration until the advisory remains in force.
