Charar-i-Sharief, Oct 2: A literary gathering was organised at The Cardiff School in Charar-i-Sharief to mark the release of the book ‘ناؤ تارس کیا دِمے’, authored by noted Kashmiri poet Ghulam Ahmad Dilbar.

The event brought together writers, poets, literary enthusiasts and other distinguished personalities, who gathered to pay tribute to the literary contribution of Dilbar and highlight the importance of preserving and promoting Kashmiri language and literature.

Among those present at the programme was Farooq Wani, Editor of Brighter Kashmir, along with other prominent guests and dignitaries. The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on Dilbar’s literary contribution and his place in the cultural and literary tradition of Kashmir.

Ghulam Ahmad Dilbar, who was associated with Charar-i-Sharief and was known for his poetic and Sufi-Rishi tradition, had contributed significantly to Kashmiri literature. His literary work continues to remain part of the region’s cultural heritage. Brighter Kashmir had earlier reported his demise in October 2023, describing him as a prominent poet and Sufi-Rishi figure of Charar-i-Sharief.

The release of ‘ناؤ تارس کیا دِمے’, carrying the English rendering “What shall I offer you for carrying me across the Bridge of Divinity?”, was described as a significant literary occasion, bringing renewed attention to Dilbar’s work and his contribution to Kashmiri literary and spiritual expression.

Speakers and participants emphasised the need to document and preserve the works of Kashmiri writers and poets and to provide younger generations with greater access to the region’s literary heritage.

The programme concluded with appreciation for the organisers, guests and literary personalities who participated in the gathering. The event also underscored the continuing relevance of Kashmiri literature and the role of literary institutions and educational spaces in keeping the region’s cultural traditions alive.
