CM Omar Abdullah Discusses Sustainable Mountain Development With IMI, SKUAST-K Delegation

Srinagar, Aug 31: A delegation comprising the President of the Integrated Mountain Initiative and the Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday and discussed measures to promote sustainable mountain development in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

During the meeting, the delegation held detailed discussions with the Chief Minister on issues related to ecological conservation, sustainable livelihoods and climate-resilient planning in the Himalayan region.

 

The discussions focused on the need to balance environmental protection with the developmental and livelihood requirements of communities living in the mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The delegation put forward several suggestions aimed at strengthening sustainable approaches to mountain development and addressing emerging ecological and climate-related challenges.

 

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah heard the suggestions and assured the delegation that the issues and recommendations raised during the meeting would be given appropriate consideration.

 

The meeting comes amid growing attention to the ecological challenges facing the Himalayan region, including climate variability, pressure on natural resources and the need for development models that remain resilient to environmental changes.
