Jammu, Oct 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department has reportedly initiated an ₹8.50-crore food procurement plan to improve the quality, variety and nutritional value of meals provided to inmates across prisons.
The proposed menu includes a wider selection of pulses, milk, fresh vegetables, dry fruits, dates and eggs. Traditional Kashmiri food items such as haak and nadru have also been included, while mutton is reportedly part of the menu for non-vegetarian inmates.
The revised diet plan aims to ensure that prisoners receive balanced and nutritious meals while introducing greater variety into their daily food intake. Central Jail Kot Bhalwal and District Jail Jammu are among the facilities mentioned in connection with the proposed arrangements.
Director General of Prisons Deepak Kumar has reportedly issued the revised dietary guidelines. The ₹8.50-crore procurement allocation is expected to facilitate the supply of the specified food items under the new plan.
