Srinagar, Sep 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution seeking the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, despite strong protests by BJP legislators.

The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, calls for the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood and urges that it be forwarded to the Government of India.

BJP members opposed the resolution and protested inside the House, particularly over references to previous Assembly resolutions, including the autonomy resolution adopted in 2000.

The protests led to disruptions and heated exchanges between members of the Treasury and Opposition benches as the government proceeded with the voting.

The resolution also refers to earlier resolutions passed by the Assembly on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024.

The House ultimately approved the resolution amid continued objections and protests from BJP legislators.
