Srinagar, Sep 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved a scheme under which Antyodaya Anna Yojana families will receive the cost of six domestic LPG refills every year.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that the benefit will be extended to eligible AAY households through Aadhaar-linked Direct Benefit Transfer.

He said the government is currently working out the detailed modalities for implementing the scheme.

The announcement led to heated exchanges in the Assembly, with BJP members seeking clarification over the coverage and implementation of the scheme. They also raised questions regarding an earlier electoral commitment concerning LPG cylinders.

The government clarified that the proposed assistance is intended specifically for families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
