Kargil, July 23: Kargil Police have directed all landlords and property owners to complete mandatory tenant verification, following an order issued by the District Magistrate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

As per the advisory, landlords, house owners, attorney holders, and those renting out residential or commercial properties must submit the prescribed tenant verification form, containing complete details of their tenants, to the concerned police station within seven days. The form must be signed by both the landlord and the tenant.

The directive also applies to properties that are already occupied by tenants, with owners instructed to furnish the required information at the earliest.

Police said the verification exercise is aimed at preventing criminals and anti-social elements from exploiting rented accommodations as safe havens, while strengthening security and assisting law enforcement in maintaining public order.

Authorities have cautioned that failure to comply with the District Magistrate's order may result in legal action under the relevant provisions of the BNSS and other applicable laws.

Kargil Police have appealed to all residents and property owners to cooperate with the verification drive, describing it as a key measure to enhance the safety and security of the district.
