Security Heightened in Bandipora Following Policeman’s Killing in Anantnag

July 23, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Bandipora, July 23: Security has been significantly strengthened across north Kashmir’s Bandipora district following the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable in a militant attack in Anantnag.

Official sources said security forces have launched intensified search operations, raids and vehicle checking at several locations across the district as part of enhanced security measures. Acting on intelligence inputs, joint teams are conducting searches and increasing surveillance to prevent any possible security threat.

As part of the ongoing operations, over 130 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been detained for questioning and verification. The exercise is aimed at identifying and disrupting militant support networks in the district.

Authorities have also stepped up security checks on major roads, entry and exit points, and key intersections. Vehicles are being thoroughly inspected, commuters' identities verified, and frisking has been intensified at busy markets and other sensitive locations.

In addition, security forces have increased area domination patrols in both urban and rural areas to maintain a strong presence, while surveillance at vulnerable locations has been further reinforced as a precautionary measure.

The heightened security follows Wednesday’s militant attack in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag, where a police head constable was shot dead, prompting security agencies to raise the alert level across the Kashmir Valley.

Officials have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel during ongoing checking and verification drives, stating that the measures are purely preventive and aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.

The intensified security operations are expected to continue in the coming days as agencies remain on high alert across the Valley.
