Kargil, July 30: Traffic on the Kargil, Leh National Highway (NH 1) remained suspended on Thursday after a massive landslide triggered by heavy rainfall blocked the road near Akchamal in Kargil district.
Officials said the downpour caused mud, rocks and debris to slide onto the highway, completely obstructing vehicular movement along the strategic route.
Road clearance operations are underway, with machinery and workers deployed to remove the debris. Traffic will remain suspended until the highway is cleared and declared safe for travel.
Authorities have advised commuters and transporters to avoid the route until further notice and to check official traffic updates before starting their journey.
The highway closure is likely to disrupt the movement of passengers and essential supplies between Kargil and Leh until restoration work is completed.
