Rajouri, July 30: The strategically important Thannamandi, DKG, Bufliaz road in Rajouri district remained closed on Thursday, 13 days after it was severely damaged by heavy rainfall, cloudbursts and landslides.

The road, developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), serves as a key link between the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and the Kashmir Valley. It sustained extensive damage after a cloudburst on July 19 triggered flash floods and landslides, washing away sections of the newly built road, damaging culverts and uprooting trees at several locations.

BRO teams have been carrying out restoration work continuously, but traffic has not yet resumed. Repair and clearance operations are underway to reopen the road as early as possible.

Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted through the Bimber Gali route. Officials said the road will be reopened only after the damaged stretches are fully stabilised and certified safe for vehicular movement.
