Srinagar, Oct 2: SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina has suspended five MBBS students and interns for a week and imposed a ₹10,000 fine on each following their reported involvement in a ragging incident.
An order issued by the Principal said the action was taken after the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee recommended disciplinary measures against the five individuals for violating the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.
Those facing action include Shubham Verma and Sunil Verma of the 2023 batch, Shahdev of the 2024 batch, and interns Rupal Suntal and Lavish Sharma from the 2021 batch.
The suspension bars them from attending classes and participating in academic or internship-related activities for one week.
Each student and intern has also been directed to deposit a fine of ₹10,000 in the prescribed CD-10 account and submit the payment receipt to the Academic Section within five days.
The parents or guardians of the concerned students and interns have been asked to accompany them before the Anti-Ragging Committee for further proceedings.
The college has warned that non-compliance with the order could result in additional disciplinary action under UGC regulations and institutional rules.
The order also directs authorities to withhold the stipends of the interns for the duration of their suspension, in accordance with the applicable rules.
