Srinagar, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness continued rainfall over the coming days, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy showers in parts of the Union Territory and warning of possible flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

Parts of J&K received significant rainfall during the past 24 hours, with Pulwama recording the highest rainfall at 57.5 mm. Poonch received 53 mm, followed by Awantipora at 47.8 mm and Rajouri at 44 mm, the MeT Department said.

The MeT Centre Srinagar said light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on August 12, with brief intense heavy showers possible in a few districts from the afternoon to evening.

From August 13 to 15, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places. Brief intense showers may occur at a few locations during the early morning, morning and late afternoon to evening hours.

Between August 16 and 19, a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places. Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are expected in a few districts during the early morning and afternoon hours.

The department said heavy rain and brief intense showers are likely in a few districts of the Jammu division during August 16 to 19, while one or two districts of Kashmir may also experience brief intense showers.

From August 20 to 22, scattered areas may receive light rain and thundershowers.

The MeT Department cautioned that torrential rainfall and brief intense heavy showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations.

People, tourists and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and follow advisories issued by the administration.
