
The students of Departments of Communication & Journalism and English, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) represented the University at the First International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) held at SKICC here on Thursday.
Fifty students from both departments actively engaged in interactive sessions with leading professionals from the film industry.
Dean, Academic Affairs (DAA), Prof. Shahid Rasool thanked IFFJK organisers for providing students an opportunity to interact with Filmmakers and media professionals. He said that such participation provides students with real-world exposure, bridging academic learning with professional practice. He highlighted that the festival offered insights into the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, enriching students’ understanding of cinema.
Students participated in discussions with eminent cinematographers, sound engineers, and scriptwriters and watched film-shots that gave them real learning experience. They had an opportunity to learn from award-winning cinema directors Shahnad Jalal, Shankar Ramakrishnan, acclaimed sound engineer Baylon Fonseca, and other distinguished experts.
Students expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, (DAA), Prof. Shahid Rasool, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Dean, School of Languages, Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, HoD DCJ, Dr. Arif Nazir. Senior faculty members Dr. John Babu Koyye (DCJ) and Mr. Sunil Kumar Mannil (Dept. of English) accompanied the students.
