Kargil Heroes Remembered Across Northeast

Dimapur, July 27: On the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under Spear Corps paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, with solemn commemorative events held across Northeast India.

Wreath-laying ceremonies were conducted at prominent war memorials, including the Walong War Memorial in Arunachal Pradesh, Shantivan War Memorial in Manipur, and Albert Ekka War Memorial in Tripura, where soldiers and officials honoured the courage, valour and sacrifice of the Kargil heroes.
As part of the commemorations, special outreach programmes were organised for Veer Naris, war widows and ex-servicemen at Senapati, Andro, Modi and Agartala. The events reflected the Army’s continued commitment towards the welfare and support of families of fallen soldiers and veterans.
A series of community engagement activities were also conducted across various locations, including Lokra, Lekhapani, Kordoiguri, Radhanagar, Srikona, Jiribam, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal. The programmes included Vijay Runs, Tiranga Rallies, drawing and essay competitions, documentary screenings, medical camps and military band performances, encouraging public participation and spreading awareness about the legacy of Operation Vijay.
The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from local communities, youth, veterans and serving personnel, creating an atmosphere of patriotism and remembrance.
The commemorations reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to preserve the memory of the Kargil warriors and inspire future generations with the ideals of courage, sacrifice, discipline and selfless service to the nation.
